About the event
Laura Waller is an Australian abstract artist who now resides in Vancouver, WA.
Her art is filled with energy and light, which can be seen through her brushstrokes and extensive color palette. Her adventures in art began at an early age spending countless hours painting with her grandmother, an accomplished landscape artist. By the time she was 16, Laura was exhibiting in major local galleries, selling to collectors, and winning various accolades. However, in spite her early success, Laura decided to pursue a career in classical music. "Even though I was studying music, I could never separate myself from the art world. I was always painting, taking art classes, and splitting my time between a practice room and the art studio. It was my home-away-from-home". Struck with an inability to choose - Laura decided that she would do both. She would be a musician and an artist. "The two art forms are the perfect marriage, constantly informing one another, expressing the ineffable".
Laura specializes in abstract art, often painting landscapes and referencing the natural world. Although her primary medium is acrylic, Laura has been known to use everything from ink and enamel to crayon and house paint! "The purpose of the medium is to create and convey an image, a feeling. Whatever I have at my disposal, I use." This mindset doesn't just apply to the medium that she uses to create her art, it applies to what her art can be found on. In addition to traditional canvas paintings, Laura's work can be seen on statues, furniture, paper, and skate decks. To her, nothing is "off limits".
When she's not painting, Laura can be found teaching music lessons and spending time with her husband and 4 children. "Life is busy and chaotic and full of energy. My art is the same - busy, sometimes chaotic, and full of energy."
Her artwork can be found in private collections in the USA, Canada, and Australia.
