About the event
On October 7th, 2024, Hamas invaded Israel killing 1,139 people and taking hostages. Mimi German’s third book of poetry, WAR POEMS, Israel-Gaza:The First 100 Days of Carnage, chronicles the first 100 days that followed 10/7, one poem per day, in order to attempt to come to terms with who she is as an American Jew and who we are collectively as Jews who have always professed to the notion, Never Again.
The audience witnesses German’s exploration of her Jewish identity, grappling with the meaning of "Never Again" amid the suffering in Israel from the deadly actions of Hamas on October 7th, and Netanyahu’s crippling and genocidal response in Gaza against Palestinians.
WAR POEMS illuminates a shared humanity, urging us to recognize that suffering is universal, that living in fear keeps us separated, and that to move forward, we must find the light, moving together into a new existence where compassion and understanding allow us all, Jews and Palestinians alike, to coexist on both of our ancestral lands.
